STUDENT NEWS

Great American Mail Race!

Our Grade 2 students received letters from Blessed Sacrament, an elementary school in Utah, in an effort to learn more about our school and students.  We then send out 19 letters to other Catholic Schools throughout the USA; so that we could learn more about those states, and their student's hobbies and interests.  We have received a few responses back from Maine, Louisiana, and Illinois; but are anxiously awaiting to hear back from others!

Oratorical Society

The Oratorical Society Club meets once a week for an hour to practice and enhance their public speaking skills. The goal of the Oratorical Society is to foster the development of poise and confidence in our students. Students are asked to pick one speech (political, eulogy, or commencement address) to memorize in preparation for the Annual Diocesan Oratorical Contest. According to the contest guidelines, "The contestant should develop the ability to convey the message in a sincere, honest, and realistic style. The mechanics of the speech must be observed faithfully: poise, quality of voice, effectiveness and ease of gesture, emphasis, variety, pronunciation and enunciation. "

National Junior Honor Society Toys for Tots Drive

Our school chapter of the National Junior Honor Society held a Toys for Tots drive at our school as one of their service projects.  Our president, Carl Ferreri, organized the drive from the start to the end.  From the end of November until December 12th, students in our school were asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy for a specific age group.  Every student who donated, received a cut out of a trainto write their name on to be posted on a bulletin board.  At the end of the drive, we filled three and half boxes worth of toys!
