Local IT/digital gaming sector set to soar
 
Several key community projects in the information technology sector are getting significant boosts thanks to recent government investments. A business attraction strategy, along with the development of an ICT hub, are now moving forward with funding announced on December 16 from FedNor - Industry Canada.


The $185,000 will allow community partners to develop an investment attraction strategy to target businesses in the digital gaming and information/communication technology (ICT) sectors. The funding will also allow the community to assess the feasibility of developing an ICT hub and shared data services facility. Read more.

 

  


 

 
City maintains its A+ credit rating from Standard & Poor's
In November 2013, Standard & Poor reaffirmed its positive outlook for the City of Sault Ste. Marie. S&P, a financial institution that provides global credit benchmarks, maintained it's A+ rating for the Municipality. The high rating was based on a number of factors, including the City's low debt burden and its "very positive" liquidity position. Read more.

2013 Tourism Sault Ste. Marie Award winners announced
Tourism Sault Ste. Marie hosted its 11th annual Tourism Awards in November at Algoma's Water Tower Inn & Suites. At the event, five individuals, businesses and organizations were recognized for their significant contributions to the tourism industry. More than 100 tourism, business and political leaders attended the ceremony. Read more.

 

EDF loan guarantee allows Searchmont to open
At the December 2 meeting of City Council, Searchmont Ski Association received a $100,000 loan guarantee from the City of Sault Ste. Marie's Economic Development Fund (EDF). The money, used as collateral, enables the resort to access a line of credit from its financial institution, which allows staff to get the attraction in operation. Read more.
  
  

SSMEDC relocates to first level of the Civic Centre
The Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation - including its Business Sault Ste. Marie and Tourism Sault Ste. Marie divisions - has moved office locations.
