It's hard to believe that summer is winding down and school is starting once again. Thanks to everyone who participated in our amazing summer art camps, to all who joined us at Colburn Park for our plein air art table at the Farmers Market, or came to one of our many events in the gallery. It's been a treat to share experiences in the arts with you.

AVA's Fall programs kick off in the next two weeks. And what a season we have planned!
  • Our next exhibition opens on Friday, September 9 and is sponsored in part by New Hampshire Humanities.
  • A public art partnership with the Valley News releases on Saturday, September 10. Pick up a paper to get your copy!
  • Classes begin for adults the week of September 10.
  • Classes begin for children the week of September 12.
  • Community programs begin again the week of September 13.
Also of note: the construction of AVA's Sculptural Studies Building is moving along beautifully, and AVA members will have a chance to meet our new Executive Director, Trip Anderson, at our September 20th Annual Meeting. Read on!

AVA's 2016 Annual Meeting - Join us and meet our future Executive Director! Tuesday, September 20, 6-7:30pm

All AVA members are cordially invited to our Annual Meeting on Tuesday, September 20, from 6:00 to 7:30pm. This year, as we begin preparing for our leadership transition, Bente and our newly selected Executive Director, Trip Anderson, (who officially begins on November 1, as he will overlap with Bente for one month) will both be on hand. This is the perfect venue for our cherished members to meet Trip before he begins his tenure, while at the same time he learns the Annual Meeting ropes, per se. Election of new officers and Board members will take place, and the proposed budget for fiscal year 2016-2017 will be discussed. There will also be a progress report on AVA's Sculptural Studies Building, and recent upgrades to the Carter-Kelsey Building. Please join us to learn more about the organization you so generously support! Refreshments will be served.

AVA Gallery Appoints Trip Anderson as Executive Director

Following an extensive nationwide search, AVA Gallery and Art Center (AVA) announced recently that Paul N. Anderson III, commonly known as Trip Anderson, will lead our nonprofit organization as its new Executive Director upon Bente Torjusen's retirement after a thirty-year tenure. Anderson will officially join AVA Gallery on November 1, 2016. Torjusen will officially retire on December 2, 2016.

The Mudroom at AVA

The next installment of AVA Gallery's quarterly story-telling series, The Mudroom, will be held September 22, on the theme "Creation Stories."

We're looking for a few good storytellers! Stories are limited to 7 minutes, must be true and autobiographical, and must be told live (not read), similar in style and format to "The Moth Radio Hour."

Click here to send story ideas to The Mudroom. Please include a very brief summary of your story (no more than 300 words) and a short bio (no more than 150 words). The deadline for story submissions is September 1. After that date, we will select five stories from the submission pool.

We welcome stories from storytellers of all ages (over 21) and from all towns in the Upper Valley. Storytellers will be given a one-year membership to AVA Gallery as a gift.

In addition to the live storytelling, September 22 Mudroom will feature:
