Our Winter 2014 program is filled with diverse arts offerings for all ages and abilities, including new exhibitions; more than 40 classes, camps and workshops; and many special programs that partner with other Upper Valley organizations. Come to AVA to keep your spirit warm during the coldest time of year.

The first session of classes for children ages 5-8, 9-12, and teens begins the week of January 6 and includes:

Storytelling with Shadows
Presented at AVA in Partnership with The Hopkins Center, Dartmouth College
January 8, 6:30-8:30pm

 

 

 

Join Shadowlight's Larry Reed, award-winning theater director and shadow master, to create your own unique shadow puppets and learn to perform in shadows. Ages 13+. This workshop is being held at AVA Gallery and Art Center.

Shadowlight Productions will be presenting Poro Oyna: The Myth of the Aynu on Friday and Saturday, January 10 & 11, at 8pm at The Hopkins Center.

Back by popular demand, Stefan von Norden's Hand of Brick: Densmore Brick Company--A Look Back will be shown on Sunday, January 19 at 4pm. This local documentary traces the history of the Densmore brickyard and the history of brickmaking through interviews with former employees. Please join us!

December 2013 marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of Edvard Munch. In honor of this occasion, AVA will be showing Edvard Munch: Paintings on Sunday, January 26 at 4:00pm. The film, which was produced and directed by Clifford B. West in 1968, features a narration based exclusively on Munch's writings and many of the artists later, lesser known works. Bente Torjusen, AVA's Executive Director, will give an introduction to this film, one of thirty documentaries on art and architecture made by West, her late husband.
 
January 26 Benefit at Margaritas in Lebanon, NH
15% of the Proceeds from Your Meal Will Go to AVA
 
Margaritas Mexican Restaurant, located by the Lebanon Co-op on Centerra Drive, will be hosting a Noche Mexicana Fundraiser to benefit AVA on Sunday, January 26.

Fifteen percent of the pre-tax amount you spend on food and beverages will be donated to AVA, so please head to your neighborhood Margaritas, mention that you're supporting AVA with your purchase, and know that you'll be getting more than just fajitas -- you'll also be supporting AVA!

New Hampshire Arts Learning Network Meet-Up

January 30, 5-7pm at AVA Gallery and Art Center 

 

Meet-Ups are informal regional meetings where members of the New Hampshire arts education community can gather to get to know one another, share, inspire and plan.  

 

The January 30, 2014 Meet-Up will be hosted by AVA Gallery and Art Center. It will be a potluck, so bring a dish to share.

Call for Entries: PhotoSpiva
Deadline: January 5 

 

PhotoSpiva is a national competition hosted annually by Spiva Center for the Arts. Founded in 1977, PhotoSpiva has become the longest-running photographic competition of its kind in the U.S. As stated by the founders, the objective of PhotoSpiva is to "present an exhibition of excellence in photography, celebrating the scope and vigorous activity of today's contemporary photographers."

Call for Entries: Visiting Artist Fellowships at Drury University

The Summer Institute for Visual Arts at Drury University is currently seeking applications for Summer 2014 Visiting Artist Fellow
ships. Each year, four Visiting Artist Fellowships are awarded to internationally recognized artists representing a range of practices and disciplines. During their five-week residency at the Summer Institute, each Visiting Artist is provided with on-campus housing, a private studio space and a $4500.00 stipend. In turn, Visiting Artist Fellows serve as mentors in the MA in Studio Art and Theory (MART) program. They are responsible for a Visiting Artist Studio and are expected to play an active role in the Summer Institute through program-wide studio visits, reviews, a technical workshop and public lecture.
