Four Artists, Four Decades

Four Artists, Four Decades showcases and celebrates the work of AVA co-founder Lili Mayor.
Works by Jon Keenan, Colleen Randall, and Clifford B. West (1916-2006), each chosen by Mayor for their artistic accomplishments and their relationship to AVA, are also on display.

Focus on Film - As Art, On Art
In our 40th anniversary year, AVA is pleased to pay homage to the media of film as an integral part of the visual arts. Our new series, Focus on Film - As Art, On Art will pay special tribute to films on artists and art collectors as well as to film as a moving-image art form. To enhance the experience, each screening will be paired with a talk or panel discussion.
This film series, free and open to the public, will take place in AVA's Clifford B. West Gallery. Refreshments will be served.

Michael R. Taylor, Director of the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, will introduce the film and discuss the role of the contemporary art collector.

CAOS for Toddlers, CAOS, and ART STOP!
Special Programs Starting in September!
CAOS for Toddlers (CAT), a weekly program on Friday mornings, 9:30 to 11:30am, for children 1-4 years old, begins again on September 20. Caregivers must remain with their toddlers and are expected to help with clean-up. Materials are provided, and participation is $5 per child. CAOS for Toddlers is made possible in part thanks to a grant from The Pauline Davenport Children's Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation.
On Saturday, September 21, from 11am to 4pm, weekly CAOS (Community Arts Open Studio) resumes. This favorite family drop-in program takes place on most Saturdays throughout the school year (please call 603-448-3117 to check the schedule during holidays). Materials are provided, and the cost is $5 per child. CAOS is supported in part by a grant from the Highfield Foundation.
ART STOP!--the free afterschool program that encourages youths in grades 5-8 to take inspiration from AVA's ongoing exhibitions to create their own drawings, paintings, and sculptures--begins again on September 24. Meeting weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 5pm, ART STOP! is made possible through 2013 thanks to a generous grant from the Couch Family Foundation. AVA is seeking sponsorship to continue ART STOP! through the remainder of the 2013-2014 academic calendar.

Introducing The Mudroom
Opening Night: Thursday, September 19, 7-9pm
AVA is pleased to announce the launch of " The Mudroom," a new initiative modeled after NPR's "The Moth Radio Hour." The new program is designed as a social gathering venue for adults in the Upper Valley to share real-life stories.
The first gathering will take place in AVA's galleries on Thursday, September 19th, 7-9pm.
The evening's theme, "Getting Schooled," will be brought to life as five pre-selected individuals share personal accounts of what "Getting Schooled" means to them.
The gathering is open to the public, adults only please. Refreshments will be available.
The date for the second gathering of "The Mudroom" is scheduled for December 5, 2013.

A Celebration of Upper Valley Artists at Pompanoosuc Mills, East Thetford, VT, through September 22
AVA Gallery and Art Center, in partnership with Pompanoosuc Mills, is pleased to present A Celebration of Upper Valley Artists. The exhibition, on display in Pompanoosuc Mills' showrooms in East Thetford, VT, runs from August 16 through September 22, 2013.
This is the second time that Pompanoosuc Mills has hosted an exhibition of work by local AVA artists. The participating artists are: Barbara Bartlett (mixed-media), Steve Chase (paintings), David Fisk (paintings), Georgina Forbes (paintings), Brenda Garand (sculpture), Jean Gerber (paintings), Pat Glowa (ceramics), Rachel Gross (prints), Naomi Hartov (collage), Donald Haynes (paintings), Daniel A. Neary, Jr (photographs), Jessica Neary (paintings), Anne Rose (paintings), Jonathan Rose (paintings), Helen Shulman (paintings), Tom Urgo (photographs), and Ann Sargent Walker (paintings).

AVA Public Art Sculpture Class Offered This Fall!
AVA is delighted to partner with the PowerHouse Mall in West Lebanon, NH to offer a new Public Art Project this fall. In our upcoming Sculpture Modeling, Plaster Casting and Public Art! class (Sept 27 - Oct 25), led by Ernest Montenegro, participants will work with clay to make their own small three-dimensional artwork. Once the designs are finalized, everyone will create molds and produce a series of cast-plaster multiples of their original works! The series of small multiples will then be hidden throughout the PowerHouse Mall, creating a Halloween wonderland for children and families to find as part of the October celebrations. Learn a new sculpture process, enhance your resume, and celebrate the arts with your neighbors! Click here to see a project with a similar spirit that went around the world! AVA Joins the North American Museum Program
AVA is pleased to be part of the North American Museum (NARM) program.
NARM extends your AVA membership all across North America to over 650 participating museums and galleries. You receive free admission and member benefits at gifts shops at participating museums and art centers.

All AVA members at the $100 level or more are welcome to participate in this wonderful program. Please call (603) 448-3117, or stop by the AVA office to receive your NARM sticker for your AVA membership card. The sticker is required to receive your NARM benefits.

La Fragua Artist Residency in Belalcazar, Spain

La Fragua Artist Residency is open to artists of all disciplines and nationalities. They offer an opportunity to participate in a non-conventional residency experience. La Fragua Artist Residency is a non-profit cultural organization conceived with the purpose of developing the visual arts in the rural environment encouraging a dynamic and active countryside. La Fragua Artist Residency is a new initiative with a focal point centered on the creation of an International Artist Residency housed in the historical Convent of Santa Clara in Belalcazar, Spain.
