Saturday, March 23, 5:30-8pm

AVA Gallery and Art Center's Silent Auction, our liveliest and most anticipated annual fundraising event, is just around the corner.

This year, more than 100 artists and craftspeople are donating works, including oil paintings, pastels, watercolors, photographs, sculpture, mixed media works, drawings, prints, jewelry, ceramics, woodwork, and glass.

Additionally, donations from numerous local businesses--including jewelry, clothing, cookware, fashion accessories, various services and gift certificates--also constitute an important part of the auction.

Delicious refreshments will be served, and lively music will set the tone for this very special occasion.

New this year is a poster exhibition and auction of thirteen vintage Dartmouth Winter Carnival posters shown in AVA's Johnson Sisters Library (see next article.)

The Silent Auction is AVA's most important annual fundraiser. Proceeds from the Silent Auction help support every aspect of AVA's art programming and mission, including art classes and workshops, exhibitions by established and emerging artists, scholarship and internship opportunities as well as special opportunities for children and adults with disabilities.

No admission is charged to preview the Silent Auction Exhibition or to make early-bird bids between March 16 - March 23, 2013, 11am-5pm

Dartmouth Winter Carnival Posters Exhibition and Silent Auction

March 7-23 in AVA's Johnson Sisters Library

Final Bidding: March 23, 7:30pm

The tradition of Dartmouth Winter Carnival Posters--which feature iconic images of skiers, ice skaters and other gleeful students--dates back to 1911 with the first poster designed by Walter Humphries (Class of 1914), depicting a skier mid-jump above the evergreens. Winter Carnival posters are now collectors' items for both Dartmouth alumni and poster enthusiasts. The most sought-after posters are those with Art Deco-inspired designs from the 1940s and 1950s, several of which are included in this exhibition.

Special thanks and appreciation are extended to Al Quirk, longtime AVA supporter and former Board Member, who donated the thirteen beautifully framed vintage Dartmouth Winter Carnival posters that will be publicly displayed at AVA and sold for the benefit of our nonprofit visual arts organization.

Complete CAOS!!!

CAOS for Adults Meets the First Thursday of Every Month, 6-10pm

At AVA, CAOS is now complete--that is, the kind of CAOS that stands for Community Arts Open Studio!

With CAOS for Adults now joining our Friday morning CAOS for Toddlers and our mainstay, CAOS for families, on Saturdays, we can safely say that CAOS reigns at AVA!

CAOS for Adults takes place on the first Thursday of every month, 6-10pm. Each session provides the opportunity to work on a special project, offered by an AVA faculty member, though participants are also welcome to work on a project of their own choice.

Cost per session for this drop-in program is $10. Participants must be over 21 years of age, as this is a BYO wine and beer opportunity, as well.

21st Annual Colored Pencil Society of America Exhibition
