Book Signing Party for Josh Yunger's Hippo and Monkey
Tuesday, October 2, 5:00-8:00pm
A book signing party for the launching of Hippo and Monkey (Bunker Hill Publishing) by longtime AVA artist Josh Yunger, will take place in AVA's Clifford B. West Gallery on Tuesday, October 2, from 5 to 8pm. The book, described on the dust jacket as "a children's book for all ages," is filled with Yunger's expressive, colorful linoleum cuts, which accompany a tender and thought-provoking story.
A painter, printmaker and musician, Josh began taking painting classes at AVA at age 14, studying for a number of years with Clifford B. West. In 1999, Josh received a BFA in Printmaking and Sound Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has had several solo shows at AVA, where he also teaches printmaking.
All are welcome to the book signing party, and refreshments will be served.

A Poetry Reading by Laura Boyajian
Thursday, October 4, 6:00pm
Artist and poet Laura Boyajian, of West Lebanon, NH, will read a selection of her recent poems on Thursday, October 4. The reading, at 6pm, will take place in the Clifford B. West Gallery. Boyajian's ties to AVA go back more than two decades, with her frequent participation in solo and group art exhibitions as well as poetry readings. A graduate of Smith College, she was prominently featured in the 1996-98 nationally juried traveling exhibition "Truth from Darkness," showcasing work by artists with mental illness. It was displayed at AVA in 1998. In order to appeal to varied and challenging audiences, Boyajian states that her "original art and poetry must be powerful, potent and excellent!" Like her sparse and poignant use of line, specifically evident in her pen and ink drawings, Boyajian's poems are similarly marked by an expressive quality and a rhythmic simplicity. Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
