Drawn Together: 40 Hours - 40 Years!
AVA's Education and Exhibition Programs Come Together in a Special Offering
Recognizing that 2013 is AVA's 40th anniversary year, during which celebratory occasions will abound, we are delighted to present a unique offering that draws from two of our organization's core programs: Education and Exhibitions.
Drawn Together: 40 Hours - 40 Years! is an opportunity for participants to engage in an in-depth study of drawing, culminating in an exhibition of their work in AVA's galleries here at AVA.
The class is designed for students with basic drawing experience looking for an immersive course in which they can refine their existing skills and explore new directions while creating a body of work that is truly their own. The beginning of the class will be spent working on observational drawing, including both still life and figure. The later sessions will be devoted to producing your own body of work in your own visual voice. In one of the last sessions of this 40-hour course, AVA's Exhibition Coordinator, Margaret Jacobs, will walk the participants through the various stages of preparing for an exhibition. (The exhibition will take place in 2013; dates are to be determined.) Prepare for hard work, lively discussions, and, oh yes, an opening reception for your exhibition!

***
September 22 - November 17; Saturdays, 2:00-4:00pm; Eight Two-hour Classes
We carry our memories with us for the entirety of our lives, and yet with time they become mutable, allowing us to rethink the past and come to a new understanding of our lives in the present. The following questions play a central role in understanding ourselves as writers:
- How do we foster community through story?
- Is memory fact?
- How do our memories shape our current self and our loved ones' understanding of our lives?
- How can we contribute to the wonders of being human through language and art?
Through various exercises, we will seek to recreate our past and write fully about it in the present using non-fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry.
Space is limited to 12 participants. Click here to register for this program, or call AVA's office at (603) 448-3117. A $25 registration fee is requested. Scholarships are available.

Favorite AVA Programs Start Up Again!
Dartmouth Art for Kids, Art Lab, CAOS, ArtStop! and CAOS for Toddlers
Come September, a whole range of favorite AVA programs will start up again -- and most of them will run throughout the school year.
On Sunday, September 2, from 1 to 3pm, the first of the five fall sessions of Dartmouth Art for Kids -- the unique art program for children with chronic medical conditions -- will take place. Afton Chavez, Ben Blais, and Samantha Blais, all second-year students at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, will be in charge of running the program during the 2012-2013 academic year. Remaining sessions will take place on September 16 and 30, October 21, and November 4. The dates for the winter and spring sessions will be announced at a later time. Parents who wish to register their children -- siblings are welcome, too! -- for this free, grant-funded program should contact:
Adam DalPra, NH Partners in Health
Child and Family Services

West Lebanon NH 03784
(603) 518-4348 or click here to email
This program is made possible thanks to support from The Brie Fund of the Hitchcock Foundation, in memory of Brieanna Weinstein.
The weekly morning sessions of Art Lab, the imaginative art program for adults with special needs, resume in the South Studio on Wednesday, September 12, from 9:30-11am; the afternoon program starts up on Thursday, September 13, from 3:30-5pm. Individuals interested in registering for Art Lab should contact Pam Blair at Special Needs Support Center: click here to email or call (603) 448-1268. Art Lab is supported in part by a grant from the Highfield Foundation.
On Saturday, September 15, from 11am to 4pm, weekly CAOS (Community Arts Open Studio) resumes! This favorite family drop-in program-a virtual breeding ground for aspiring young artists-takes place on most Saturdays throughout the school year (please call 603-448-3117 to verify the schedule during holidays). Materials are provided, and the cost is only $5 per child. CAOS is supported in part by a grant from the Highfield Foundation.
On Tuesday, September 18, ART STOP!, the free afterschool program for students in grades 5-8, starts up again. ART STOP!, offered on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 5pm, is made possible through 2012 thanks to a generous grant from the Couch Family Foundation. The program encourages youth to take inspiration from AVA's ongoing exhibitions as they create their own drawings, paintings, and sculptures.
CAOS for Toddlers (CAT), a free weekly program on Friday mornings (9:30-11:30am) for children 1-4 years old, begins again on September 21. Caregivers must remain with their toddlers and are expected to help with the clean-up, as AVA does not provide studio monitors for this offering. Materials are provided, and donations are gratefully accepted.CAOS for Toddlers is made possible thanks to a grant from The Pauline Davenport Children's Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation.
