Patient consent pilot begins
Beginning summer, 2013 healthcare professionals will be
able to request patient information from the Health Information Exchange (HIE) as HealtHIE Nevada begins a pilot program of the patient consent process. Physicians and others on the patient's medical care team will have instant access to lab results, radiology reports, admit and discharge summaries, and transcription. To test this model, called the "Pull", we are starting a pilot of the patient consent process in four facilities throughout the state.

Opportunities to help define Post-Acute Care HIE
Here at HealtHIE Nevada we recognize the value added to the Post-Acute Care settings in participating in the Health Information Exchange (HIE). We understand the day-to-day workflow is different from that of a hospital, physician, or other healthcare setting. HealtHIE Nevada involves our community in planning the growth of the HIE. We are conducting onsite process observations and focus groups for these settings throughout April 2013.

ONC: Post-acute providers should embrace EHRs, HIEs
Long term and post acute care (LTPAC) providers have "numerous" opportunities to engage in health information exchange, and need to adopt interoperable electronic health record systems, according to a new issue brief published by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.

New ONC research on Health Information Exchange now available
The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) has recently released a series of five reports on health information exchange (HIE), addressing the business and technical challenges involved in implementing the networks. "The ONC-sponsored research will provide health information exchange implementers, policymakers, and researchers with a heightened understanding of several high-impact services that can support the sustainability of health information exchange organizations," says ONC Program Analyst John Rancourt in the HealthITBuzz announcement.
