Patient consent pilot begins

Beginning summer, 2013 healthcare professionals will beOlder couple with doctor

able to request patient information from the Health Information Exchange (HIE) as HealtHIE Nevada begins a pilot program of the patient consent process.   Physicians and others on the patient's medical care team will have instant access to lab results, radiology reports, admit and discharge summaries, and transcription. To test this model, called the "Pull", we are starting a pilot of the patient consent process in four facilities throughout the state.

How Will the Health Information Exchange Benefit Your Patients?

Faster, More Accurate Care

You may know the benefits of a Health Information Exchange (HIE), but do your patients know? As a key component for a successful HIE, we need patient involvement. Education is the key, and we need your help to get the word out.

Why do your patients need the HIE?

Your patient's medical care team needs health information to correctly diagnose and treat them. Each member of the team may have a piece of the patient's medical history. If the entire team can see the complete medical history, patients receive better care.

HealtHIE Nevada In Your Post-Acute Care Setting!

Opportunities to help define Post-Acute Care HIE

Here at HealtHIE Nevada we recognize the value added to the Post-Acute Care settings in participating in the Health Information Exchange (HIE). We understand the day-to-day workflow is different from that of a hospital, physician, or other healthcare setting. HealtHIE Nevada involves our community in planning the growth of the HIE. We are conducting onsite process observations and focus groups for these settings throughout April 2013.

Patient Engagement: One Secret to True Healthcare Reform

All one has to do is listen to the Democratic and Republican rhetoric about the role of government in healthcare to get a sense of how contentious this issue has become. And anyone who has ever spent time dealing with his local DMV or Social Security office can certainly understand why critics question the wisdom of further involving government bureaucracy in healthcare.

ONC: Post-acute providers should embrace EHRs, HIEs

Long term and post acute care (LTPAC) providers have "numerous" opportunities to engage in health information exchange, and need to adopt interoperable electronic health record systems, according to a new issue brief published by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.

New ONC research on Health Information Exchange now available

The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) has recently released a series of five reports on health information exchange (HIE), addressing the business and technical challenges involved in implementing the networks.  "The ONC-sponsored research will provide health information exchange implementers, policymakers, and researchers with a heightened understanding of several high-impact services that can support the sustainability of health information exchange organizations," says ONC Program Analyst John Rancourt in the HealthITBuzz announcement.
