Live Well Winona | Healthy Habits, better lives

A VERY HEARTFELT THANK YOU!

Volunteers are what make large events like Trinona a success year after year, and this year was no exception. We are so PROUD of the amazing people that volunteered their time and energy this weekend!

The words 'thank you' don't feel like enough to cover the enormity of our gratitude and appreciation for our volunteers who staffed 400+ work shifts.

We invite you to view our pictures from the weekend and add your own.

From the lips of one of the participants -"The volunteers this year were out-of-their way nice!"  And we can't argue with that!

Beat the Heat with Healthy Hydration

Article by Haleigh Flottmeyer, Viterbo Dietetic Intern

Summer is a great time to get active and be outside; however, the increased heat can put many at risk for dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat strokes. Signs of dehydration include fatigue, dry mouth, low energy, and grayish skin.  The most important way to avoid dehydration in summer heat is to properly hydrate.

Diabetes Prevention Program

The Winona Family YMCA is now offering a six month Diabetes Prevention Program that helps you take control of your health and adopt the healthy habits needed to reduce your risk and prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.

Prediabetes is a reversible condition. Lifestyle changes such as eating healthier, increasing physical activity, and losing a modest amount of weight can prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes in those at high risk for the disease.

June Date Idea: Seussical the Musical

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge - not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
