Nutrition article: Still Working On It
With summer finally upon us and with countless varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables available, one would think that getting in those fruits and vegetables has become as easy and mindless as brushing your teeth or getting dressed in the morning. Although it may be easier due to more variety and availability these summer months, for many it is still challenging to get in good amounts of fruits and vegetables. So even as a dietitian I continue to seek out easy, fun, and different ways to make them a part of my family's diet. Here are just a few of my favorite ways during the summer months.
Make It a Challenge Game
Get Fun With Grilling
Have Fun With Dipping
Share Family Favorites
Don't Forget About Dessert

Featured resource of the month: Holzinger Trails
Written by Jade Gilbertson, Intern at Live Well Winona
Get lost in one of the most beautiful locations in Winona, MN! It is so easy to enjoy the beauty of the bluffs surrounding our town but it is another thing entirely to explore them. The trails behind Holzinger lodge are numerous and meet the desires of all skill levels of hiking. Feel free to stroll along the path or take one of the many routes for a longer climb. If you are feeling really up for it there is an even steeper climb that leads straight to the top. The best part is you can take a different trail every time and create an awesome adventure for yourself! Don't worry about getting lost because all of the trails loop back around to the lodge. Holzinger trails are even being highlighted by the Single Speed USA trail race in August.

Making a Difference award: Winona County Dive and Rescue
The Dive and Rescue Team was founded in 1983 and was comprised of law enforcement and civilians from Winona County. The current Team has 15 civilian members who are all volunteers. Each member carries a pager and at a moment's notice can respond to any emergency the Sheriff may have. They are "on call" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
Scuba diving is the main purpose of the team, but they are also trained in rappelling, CPR, and basic first aid. The Team also helps out with events in and around Winona, such as Trinona, Goose Bump Jump, and Steamboat Days. Brian Buerck, one of the volunteer members of the Team stated that he thought every member on the team when asked why they do this job would say "it's our way of giving back to the community that we live in."

We look forward to working with you to create a healthier Winona!

Date Night idea: Walk the streets of downtown Winona
|
Written by Jade Gilbertson, Intern at Live Well Winona
Set a little money aside that you would normally spend on a nice dinner and walk the streets of downtown Winona together. There are so many unique unknown stores that you could explore together and have a fun time! Grab some sandwiches for a cheap dinner at Acoustic Café or Erbert and Gerbert's. Pick a spot by the Mississippi Rver to enjoy the sunset, or if it is already dark sit together and look at the stars.
