by Stacey Sadowski, RD, LD

Yes, the holiday season is once again upon us.  While that can mean quality time spent with loved ones, it can also mean a chance for us to over indulge in home cooking, graze the many office potlucks, and taste test the holiday cookies. Here are just a couple helpful tips to help you keep on track during the holidays.

Home Delivered Meals - featured resource of the month:

Many non-profit and service groups assist in the execution of this valuable daily resource.

This program enables homebound or convalescing residents of Winona and Goodview to receive a nutritious lunchtime meal delivered to their home if they are unable to prepare their own meals or attend a congregate dining site. This program was founded by volunteers and continues to rely heavily on volunteer support.

Please call the Winona Volunteer Services office for a current price quote or to volunteer, or call Community Health at 507.457.6400 regarding eligibility to the waiver program.

Making a Difference award:

The Merchants Bank's 24th annual "10 Days of Giving" will be held December 1-10. The annual community food drive has a goal to surpass the collection of 2 million pounds of food.  The collected food will benefit the food shelf programs operated by Winona Volunteer Services and the Southeastern Minnesota Rural Education & Resource Center in St. Charles. Winona Volunteer Services has 968 households using the food shelf each month, with another 145 households per month using the emergency food shelf. In total, an average of 42,381 pounds of food is distributed each month.

We look forward to working with you to create a healthier Winona!

Sincerely,
Live Well Winona

Date Night idea: Winona Movie Theatre!

The Winona 7 Theatre was temporarily closed for upgrades including stadium seating in all auditoriums, new high-back rocker seats and larger screens. Take your date to check out the sweet new movie theatre, just in time for the holiday movies!
Baked Tortellini:

A creamy casserole to try on those upcoming colder nights.  Add spinach to the casserole for an added vegetable as well as having a vegetable for the side to complete the meal.  For those looking to save time and still prepare good meals, you can double the recipe and freeze half to use at a later time!
