Tzedakah Day This Sunday
BRING YOUR FILLED TZEDAKAH BOXES
This Sunday morning, December 20th, we are continuing our practice of asking school families to bring in their filled tzedakah boxes and allocate the money in them between three special organizations. These organizations are: Foodshare, The JFS Kosher Food Pantry, Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger. There are many hungry families in our community and beyond so we hope you will participate.
Program About Camp Ramah at Beth El
PARENTS INVITED TO JOIN US THIS SUNDAY
This Sunday morning, December 20th, beginning at 9:00 AM, Josh Edelglass, Assistant Director of Camp Ramah in New England, will be at Beth El to speak to Religious School students and other interested families about the Ramah experience. Beth El has a large contingent of both campers and staff every year and we invite parents to join us with your children to learn more about this summer opportunity. All current Ramah campers are encouraged to wear their camp T-shirts to school on Sunday.
Next "Shabbat Spectacular" January 16th
NO CLASSES ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 17TH
The next "Shabbat Spectacular" will take place on Saturday, January 16th. Watch your e-mail for an Evite and schedule and program information for the day. Please RSVP in a timely manner so we are able to plan appropriately. It is our hope to have every school family in attendance.
Shabbat Morning Programs This Week
The second and fourth Shabbat of each month (with occasional calendar changes like this week!) throughout the school year feature programs for the children of all ages from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. For children up to age 5, Barbara Checknoff leads "Tumbling with Torah",  a program of stories, songs and special activities followed by structured 'tumbling' time. For families with children in grades K-2, Adrian Durlester ("Mr. D") leads the "Family Shabbat Experience", an opportunity for parents to join their children for a meaningful Shabbat experience of prayers, songs and stories. For students in grades 3-6, "Shabbat Zone" includes a peer-led service and creative activities teaching about the weekly parsha. We look forward to celebrating Shabbat with your entire family this Shabbat, December 19th!
Auditions for Beth El Kids' Choir
If your student likes to sing, they are invited to audition for the renewed Kids' Choir. They will participate in Shabbat services during the school year, some BEMA concerts, and the High Holiday services. It is open to all children in grades 4-8, by audition with Cantor Ness. Weekly rehearsals will take place on Sunday from 11:15 am - noon. The first rehearsal will be on January 10, 2016. A Commitment Contract must be signed by both the student and a parent.

Remaining Audition Date:
            Sunday, December 20, noon - 12:30 pm

Be prepared to sing "Happy Birthday" during your 5 minute slot. Contact Debbie Rosenfeld at bema.wh@gmail.com, to sign up for your audition, or with any questions.

Where Does Your Family Name Come From?
CHECK OUT DISPLAY ON BULLETIN BOARD
Do you know where your family name comes from? Many of our family names come from matronyms (daughter of...), patronyms (son of...), places, occupations, personal traits, religious and communal positions, and even animal names. Look at the bulletin board display by the school offices for many examples. You are encouraged to look up the meaning and origin of your name and post it on the wall by the display. Paper, markers and tape are available on the counter in the school office.
 "It's All Relative" Orchestral Concert
