New! UCLA SPORE in Prostate Cancer Research: Developmental Research and Career Enhancement Programs 
The Developmental Research Program supports pilot projects focusing on innovative and interdisciplinary translational prostate cancer research. The Career Enhancement Program supports junior and senior faculty who wish to commit their research interests to or refocus on translational approaches in the prostate cancer research area. Both opportunities are open to  UCLA, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and City of Hope applicants; due Jul. 18. More here

New! Advanced Research Training Program in Renal Science 
The T32 program prepares MD, PhD, and MD/PhD trainees with training in basic, clinical, translational, and health services research in renal science. Applications are due Dec. 30. More here.

NHLBI SBIR/STTR Regulatory Assistance 
The NHLBI is encouraging current Small Business Innovation (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awardees to apply to a pilot program geared at engaging early face to face interactions with the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health. Due Aug. 15. More here.

Combined with the UCLA CTSI's initial award in 2011, the new five-year grant brings total NCATS support to more than $152.7 million. Read the press release.

In its June newsletter, NCATS highlighted how Dr. Juli Feigon's research, which could inform development of anti-cancer and anti-aging therapies, was enabled by a voucher for core services form the UCLA CTSI. Read more.

CTSI TL1 Fellow Joseph Viana Receives a UC Global Food Initiative "30 Under 30" Award
Joseph Viana received the 30 Under 30 Award for his collaboration with researchers and nutritionists to implement an evidence-based trial of vending machine fare at UCLA, designed to increase the purchase of healthier snacks without compromising sales. Read more.
