Women's Health Research Funding Available  

The following CTSI-sponsored opportunities require submissions by Jan. 28:

    Augmentation of Major Research Grants in Women's Health

    (pilot funds of $30,000 for one year)
    Research in Women's Health Fellowship Funding (
$20,000 for one-year
    available for one PhD candidate including M.D., Ph.D., other dual degree or
    post-doctoral student engaged in research related to women's health)    
    Pilot Funding ($30,000 for one year for UCLA researchers who perform
    women's health research, and/or research where exploration of sex and
    gender-based differences is relevant
)

R Bridge Grants for New Investigators  
Eligible new investigators at the UCLA CTSI institutions are invited to apply by Feb. 3 for a bridging grant to support research and career development across the spectrum of translational science. These awards assist investigators in making the critical transition to independent NIH R01 funding, allowing those who have received competitive scores on R01 proposals to remain scientifically productive and strengthen their proposals. KL2 Translational Science Award (LOI due)
This CTSI award provides up to $125,000 in salary support, benefits and funds to highly qualified junior faculty to conduct mentored, interdisciplinary, patient-oriented research. Letters of intent due Feb. 3. Click here for more

Call for Submissions from Undergrads in CTSI Faculty Labs  
The UCLA Undergraduate Science Journal showcases research and review articles written by UCLA undergraduate students.  For the 2014 issue, USJ wishes to highlight the work of undergraduates that work in CTSI faculty laboratories at the Westwood campus. Article submissions are due Jan. 9.

CTSI offers drop-in biostatistical consults at UCLA every Wednesday at noon. Upcoming drop-in dates are:  Jan. 8 and Jan. 15

UC ReX: a UC Shared Data Resource

UC Research eXchange and its UC ReX Data Explorer tool have launched, now providing researchers and specialists access to cohort counts derived from de-identified clinical data collected at the point of care to improve medical care and advance research. The tool enables exploration of a combined population of over 12 million patients from medical center databases at UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Davis, UCSD and UCSF.
