UC CAI Technology Development Grant Opportunity
The UC Center for Accelerated Innovation is a collaboration of the 5 UC CTSAs to accelerate the translation of UC discoveries to benefit patients with heart, lung and blood diseases. UC CAI invites applications from Westwood-based investigators who propose to advance highly innovative early-stage drugs, devices and diagnostics toward commercialization. Review the RFA, eligibility details, and the informational webinar. Applications are due by Dec. 20. UC CAI anticipates making up to three awards of up to $200K each to support technology development.
KL2 Award Opportunity
The CTSI of Southeast Wisconsin seeks applicants for a three-year, mentored training and research award in sickle cell disease and non-malignant hematology. Application deadline is Jan. 31. Details can be found here.
CIRM Tools and Technologies III Awards
The award will support the creation, design and testing of broadly applicable novel tools and technologies that address translational bottlenecks to stem cell therapies. Pre-application deadline is Jan. 7. More details here.

RSVP Reminder: NIH K Award Workshop Registration RSVP is required by Dec. 13 for the Feb. 13 all-day workshop to be held at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. This popular workshop covers the NIH K award process, development of NIH K award proposals, the UCLA CTSI KL2 award process and an overview of CTSI resources. Participants have the opportunity to submit draft applications in advance of the workshop for review. Space is limited and fills quickly. Go here for details and registration.
UC ReX: a UC Shared Data Resource
UC Research eXchange and its UC ReX Data Explorer tool have launched, now providing researchers and specialists access to cohort counts derived from de-identified clinical data collected at the point of care to improve medical care and advance research. The tool enables exploration of a combined population of over 12 million patients from medical center databases at UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Davis, UCSD and UCSF. Start exploring UC ReX. Computational Microscopy, Sensing and Diagnostics for Telemedicine and Global Health ApplicationsIn his Dec. 4 talk, Dr. Aydogan Ozcan will discuss how cell phone technology can offer numerous opportunities to improve health care in the developing world. Specifically, he will present an on-chip cytometry and microscopy platform that utilizes cost-effective and compact components to enable digital recognition and 3D microscopic imaging of cells. Pathways to Clinical Forecasting Symposium, Attendees Can Apply for up to $30K in Pilot Funding
This Dec. 9 UCLA CTSI-supported participatory symposium will define opportunities, challenges, and future directions--as well as form new collaborations--in clinical forecasting across universities including UCLA, UC Irvine, USC, Caltech, Cedars-Sinai and UCSD.
