CTSI Pre-Announces Funding Opportunities 

UCLA CTSI intends to issue RFAs for three funding opportunities: team science awards, vouchers for core services and KL2 translational scholar awards. Click here for the full announcement.

Catalyst Awards 
Awards of $100 to $5,000 each support team-building activities that advance translational science and promote collaborations across disciplines and CTSI institutions. Deadline is August 1. Details can be found here

Dr. Lola Ogunyemi of CDU to Chair NIH Advisory Committee 

Dr. Ogunyemi, Associate Professor of Research and Director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, was recently appointed chair of the Literature Selection and Technical Review Committee (LSTRC). Click here for details and the press release.

REMINDERS 
Community Symposium on Stroke
This symposium, to be held at the Holman United Methodist Church in Los Angeles on July 19, will provide information about stroke warning signs, risk factors, treatment and disparities. Breakfast, boxed lunch, and refreshments will be served at this free event. Click here for registration and information.

GSK Discovery Fast Track Competition
The UCLA Office of Intellectual Property said barriers to faculty participation in the GlaxoSmithKline opportunity have been cleared. The deadline for the competition is July 19. Given the short time frame, interested faculty are encouraged to  contact the Office of Intellectual Property & Industry Sponsored Research for consultation and assistance.

Data Visualization for the Web Using Google Charts
The next UCLA Biomedical Library "Data Wednesdays" series seminar will address learning about the basics of data visualization and charts to present data sets on the Web. The class will include proper formatting for use with common Web tools and reviews of popular charting and visualization frameworks. Find out more and register for the July 24 event.
