UCLA Team Develops Potential Drug for Iron-overload Diseases
A biotechnology start up has an option to license minihepcidin, which was developed in the lab of Tomas Ganz, MD, PhD and Elizabeta Nemeth, PhD, co-directors of the UCLA Center for Iron Disorders. The CTSI supported the research, which appeared in Blood.
Erectile Dysfunction Drug Shows Promise Against Muscular Dystrophy
The CTSI-supported research from Ronald Victor, MD of Cedars-Sinai; Robert Elashoff, PhD of UCLA, and others was published in Science Translational Medicine and covered in the Wall Street Journal.

IMED Lecture
Nobel laureate Tom Cech, PhD of the University of Colorado will discuss telomerase and other non-coding RNPs as new targets for cancer and ALS today at noon at UCLA. Herbert Virgin, MD, PhD of Washington University will discuss the virome and disease susceptibility on January 25 at UCLA. Additional details about both events can be found here.
