Greetings!

I got out Sunday afternoon with a couple of chapter members to fish the Farmington. Word was that the Olives are coming off in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the weather turned sharply colder and the clouds were spotty. We did manage to find a few rising fish but the hatch didn't last. My size #22 fly was about one size too big and we walked away with a skunking and the first numb extremities of the season. Of course, getting skunked is a whole lot better than raking leaves!

At this month's meeting we'll be talking about conservation. Michael Jastremski of HVA will be joining us to discuss work they're doing to evaluate and help fisheries. We'll also be viewing a video that we helped to fund together with the Pootatuck Watershed Association: Our Sole Source: Protecting Our Town's Water. It's a great video about this watershed and the things we all need to consider in protecting not only habitat but our drinking water supply.

Finally, it's important that you also attend to vote for the new slate of officers and directors. See info below if you're interested in serving.

See you next Tuesday.

Deep Brook

At our next meeting on Tuesday, November 12th, we'll be focusing on the conservation side of our mission. Michael Jastremski from the Housatonic Valley Association will be joining us to speak on the Furnace Brook Fish Ladder as well as the Road/Stream Crossing assessments they're doing. We'll also present a video that CVTU helped fund and produce. Our Sole Source: Protecting Our Town's Water. This video describes the importance of the Pootatuck Watershed in contributing to Newtown's sole aquifer, the source of its drinking water.

While the lessons of this film center on the Newtown aquifer, it can be generalized to any community that relies upon surface and subsurface waters to supply drinking water.

This project was the brainchild of Dan Holmes and produced through a partnership between Iroquois Natural Gas, Candlewood Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Pototuck Club and the Pootatuck Watershed Association.
