North Dakota regulators foisted a new set of standards on the oil industry Tuesday aimed at further separating volatile gases from Bakken crude oil to make it safer for rail transport in the wake of several explosive train derailments.

Industrial Commission set to decide on oil conditioning standards Tuesday

 

Oil companies are urging North Dakota regulators to scale back proposed standards for treating crude oil to make it safer for shipment, warning the rules could increase natural gas flaring and emissions, damage equipment and add costs that could threaten some operations.

Industry groups are waiting to see what changes the North Dakota Industrial Commission makes to proposed new oil treatment regulations while conservation groups are urging any new regulations are enhanced even further.

North Dakota fines company $687,000 for disposal violations

North Dakota regulators assessed a $687,000 fine Wednesday against a Utah company for violating saltwater waste disposal rules.

For the first time in eight months, North Dakota did not set a new oil production record.

In September, Niles Hushka of KLJ engineering spoke at the 33rd Annual Petroleum Conference in Dickinson saying North Dakota could double its current oil production in about 5 years.

North Dakota to require every barrel of crude oil be filtered

North Dakota is poised to impose the strictest oil standards in its history on Tuesday, requiring every barrel of crude to be filtered for dangerous types of natural gas in an effort to make crude-by-rail transport safer.

CHI St. Joseph's Health has opened its new hospital located at 2500 Fairway Street, Dickinson.

The public should take note that the hospital Emergency Department has a separate entrance and parking lot located on the northwest corner of the building, which can be accessed directly by Empire Road.

All emergency patients, along with all patients presenting at the hospital after 9:00pm or anytime on weekends, should use the Emergency Entrance on Empire Road.

The Emergency Department is open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
