ONEOK announces up to $780M in natural gas projects, including new plant near Watford City 


North Dakota's largest processor of natural gas announced plans Tuesday to spend up to $390 million on a new processing plant in McKenzie County, a project the company's president says will "considerably" reduce the amount of natural gas flared when combined with its other facilities.

Companies work to reduce flaring 

Eliminating flaring and putting to use natural gas produced in the oil pumping process will likely take time, but two Bismarck companies are working to reduce flaring in the near term.

The new crude oil production from shale formations like the Bakken in North Dakota are making a huge difference in the U.S. energy profile. In October, for the first time since 1995, more crude oil was produced in the United States than the nation imported. It isn't energy independence but it's a big step in that direction.

Facing an increased workload like many western North Dakota counties, Stark County commissioners on Tuesday approved partnering with Forsgren Associates Inc. for the county's building inspection and permitting services.
