Greetings!

The City of Dickinson with assistance from Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson; Felsberg, Holt & Ullevig and North Dakota State University will begin work this month on a comprehensive and transportation plan. This will be a vision-based planning effort with extensive public involvement. Three community-wide meetings and a series of stakeholder workshops will be conducted to facilitate the development of a future vision for the City and ensure the plans are consistent with the public's values and interests.

The comprehensive plan encompasses topics like population and employment projections, infrastructure planning, housing development, natural resources, city services, future land utilization, economic development and intergovernmental coordination as well as identifying cost-effective extensions of the water and sewer system to future growth areas. Transportation planning topics include travel demand forecasting, access management standards, a future thoroughfare plan and multimodal transportation which include bicycle and pedestrian considerations and recommendations for a much needed truck by-pass route.

Lastly, great emphasis will be placed on the implementation of the plans. Community investments will be identified in time frames of 2 to 25 years. A detailed implementation program will identify departmental responsibility of the initiation of investments. Actions and cost estimates will be prepared and funding sources and strategies will be identified for all capital improvements.
