California Women Leading the State!

The June Primary Election was an amazing and memorable night. First, to all of the women across California who ran for office,
CONGRATULATIONS! Win or lose these women set an example for all women to consider running for office. While some did not win this time, CA Women Lead wants to work with those women to help with their success in the future. We learned by the history making example how important it is, even in the face of loss, to get back up and run again. If Hillary Clinton had walked away eight years ago, she would not have made history by becoming the first woman to be the presidential nominee for a major political party. What an inspiration to all about how important it is to not let one loss define us.

Send Us Your Feedback

We love receiving feedback from women who ran in the June Primary election. We recently sent out a letter of congratulations/encouragement to all those women who took the risk and ran for office. Below is one of our highlighted responses. Thank you to Ms. Price for emailing us! If you were on the June Primary ballot we want to celebrate you! Win or lose, let us know how you did so we can applaud you for taking the risk and running. Email us at admin@cawomenlead.org or complete our online form here.

"Rachel, I swept the field with 22,093 votes - the highest number of votes EVER for this position! Thank you for your inspiring "empowerment" in Anaheim & for your kind note to me when I lost in 2014! I will never forget! Whooohoo!"

Speaker Emeritus Toni Atkins Joins California Women Lead Board of Directors

California Women Lead is pleased to announce Speaker Emeritus Toni Atkins joined its 2016-2017 Board of Directors.

...."For many reasons, women often don't climb through windows of opportunity to become elected leaders when they're open to them. When that happens, there are always men who are more than happy to climb through instead. I look forward to helping create an environment in which more women seize these opportunities, because a California that's run by a more gender-diverse array of leaders at the local and state levels will be a better California," said Speaker Emeritus Toni Atkins on her recent appointment to the CA Women Lead Board of Directors.

Congratulations

Congratulations to CA Women Lead Immediate Past President Fiona Ma for being elected Chair of the Board of Equalization earlier this year and current President Cassandra Pye who was an honoree of the 29th Annual CAPPIES. Each year the Sacramento Public Relations Association (SPRA) honors some of the best and brightest Sacramento PR pros. Cassandra Pye is this year's 2016 PR Legacy Award winner with over 30 years experience in communications, government relations and advocacy. She's also the proud owner of 3.14 Communications and helps her clients with their political advocacy and strategic planning.

And congrats to Former Assembly Minority Leader and CA Women Lead Secretary Kristin Olsen for running for Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors. Olsen as well as the entire CA Women Lead Board of Directors continue to live our mission to ENGAGE EMPOWER ELECT setting an example for others to take the risk and run for office, serve on appointed boards or commissions, and/or become leaders in their community and workplace.

Another big shout out to these amazing women leaders- 11 of the 23 California State University campuses are now led by a woman! Two campuses will be led by a female president for the first time.

Women's Empowerment Conference Recap

The California Women Lead State Board of Directors and Mona Pasquil, Conference Chairwomen, thank all who attended our Women's Empowerment Conference at the Disneyland Resort & Hotel in Anaheim. The two day event kicked off with the first ever Leadership in Appointed Office training, providing an all day workshop for women currently serving in appointed positions. This training followed last year's first ever reception honoring Governor Jerry Brown's appointees (current and past) and thanking the Governor who has made it his commitment to fill 50% of his appointments with women, bringing parity to statewide appointments.

The Conference included a Campaign Bootcamp for women currently running for office, a reception featuring Chief Justice Tani Gorre Cantil-Sakauye who is the 28th Chief Justice of the State of California, first Asian-Filipina American and the second woman to serve as the state's chief justice, alongside Governor Jerry Brown's Appointments Secretary Mona Pasquil, and a full day of workshops and keynote speeches from women leaders all across the state- from the local to statewide level.

We have received so many compliments about the event and because of all of the amazing feedback we have had, we plan to host the conference in Northern California next year! Stay tuned for those details. Click here to take our survey and help us plan for the next conference.
