As the summer comes to a close, California Women Lead celebrates many successes and gears up to finish 2015 strong! There is also much to be thankful for, congratulations that are in order and some exciting events on the calendar!

First, congratulations to former CA Women Lead State Board Member Senator Jean Fuller who recently assumes the position as Senate Minority Leader for the Republican Caucus (the first woman to ever hold that position). She joins CA Women Lead State Board Member Kristin Olsen and Former Board Member Toni Atkins in leadership - first time in history that three women serve in these top leadership posts. While we know there are changes in terms of who will be leading the State Assembly in the next few months, we want to applaud these women for the bar they have set and hope that one day soon we will again see women serving as the top leader for their caucuses. We also would like to congratulate CA Women Lead State Board Member (and former State Assembly Minority Leader) Connie Conway who was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to serve on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.

This past May we were honored to partner with The Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation (Fresno Downtown Business HUB- FAHF) to bring our Women's Empowerment Day program to Fresno for the first time. We would also like to thank Qualcomm and Bridgepoint Education and local elected leaders in San Diego for their support or our 18th Annual Networking Lunch at the University Club in San Diego. Partnerships like these make it possible for CA Women Lead to reach more women and strive towards the goal of increasing parity with leadership in all levels of government.

We are excited to bring our Women's Empowerment Day program to Temecula and Bakersfield in the fall and would like to thank our local partners the Truax Group and Aera Energy, LLC for their support of these exiting events. Tickets are on sale now - be sure to purchase yours soon!

We are pleased to partner again with the League of California Cities on our updated report on the "Status of Women Serving on City Councils" (since our last report released prior to the General Election in 2014). We will be releasing the report as part of the League's statewide conference in San Jose at the end of September. Next year look for our series of reports focusing on the number of women running for elected office during the 2016 election cycle and the status of women in elected office post-election.

Plans are underway for our first Women's Empowerment Conference at the Disneyland Resort on Friday April 22nd. State Controller Betty T. Yee, UC Regent Charlene Zettel, Appointment Secretary Mona Pasquil, Cassandra Pye and Board of Equalization Member Fiona Ma are confirmed as well as a few other very special guests. The conference will kick off with a reception on Thursday, April 21st with a very special keynote speaker as we honor women serving in elected and appointed office. A save the date with more details on this premier event will be announced soon.

Prior to our Women's Conference in April, CA Women Lead will host its premier 50/50 Project Campaign Bootcamp - your nuts and bolts guide to running a successful campaign. This training will be capped at 40 participants and will touch on topics such as - developing your campaign "brand", fundraising, campaign plan, social media and much more. Taught by campaign professionals from both political parties, participants will leave with written materials and resources to help them run a successful campaign. An application will be required prior to registration and this training is open to women have committed to running for public office during the 2016 election cycle.  Look for more information soon!

For the first time, CA Women Lead will also host a training as part of our Women's Conference pre-session for women serving on appointed boards. This training will focus on finding your leadership style, how to find your "voice" on the board and what makes a good board member great. This training is also limited to 40 participants who are currently serving on a local or state appointed board.  More details to follow.

Finally (and most importantly) we'd like to send a BIG thank you to our members and statewide partners who financially support our mission to ENGAGE*EMPOWER*ELECT. We could not do what we do without you. Thank you for your continued support.

If you are not a member of California Women Lead or your membership has lapsed, we hope you will consider joining us as we look forward to many great events, trainings and workshops across the state. For a full list of our upcoming events, visit our website at http://www.CAWomenLead.org.

Sincerely,

CA Women Lead recognized by City of San Jose for Commitment to Women's Equality
In Case You Missed It....

California Women Lead had the honor of being recognized by the City of San Jose during a City Council meeting. Vice Mayor Rose Herrera presented a proclamation to CEO Rachel Michelin for CA Women Lead's ongoing work empowering women across the state to be leaders through elected and appointed office. The ceremony commemorated Women's Equality Day.

CA Women Lead was also invited to participate, along with a room full of local women leaders, in a Women's Equality Day Luncheon, hosted by Vice Mayor Herrera who is Founder and Past President of the League of California Cities Women's Caucus. We thank Ms. Herrera for the recognition and a wonderful ceremony.
