What a great year for California Women Lead! We had many successes - increased our membership and worked on a national level to empower women to be leaders. We continue to work towards our goal of a California with dynamic, trained, viable, women leaders running for local and state office and a California where appointed boards and commissions at the local and state levels are reflective of California's rich diversity. This is the mission of California Women Lead.

In 2014 California Women Lead trained hundreds of women on how to apply for and obtain appointments at the state and local level.  We expanded our "If Not You, The Who?" Leadership training to include Los Angeles in addition to Sacramento and several women made the decision to run for elected office because of their participation. Women who never thought they could serve in elected and appointed office are now leaders in their communities and attribute their success to the support of the California Women Lead network.

California Women Lead continues to strive for parity for California's women in elected and appointed office - there is still much work to be done and California Women Lead will continue to work with all California's women to help them realize their leadership potential and get involved. For more information about California Women Lead and our programs visit www.cawomenlead.org.

Thank you to our members who financially support our mission, to our statewide partners and to the women throughout California who ran for office in 2014, applied for a political appointment or joined us for one of our many events throughout the state. California Women Lead has a lot to be proud of.

If you are not a member of California Women Lead or your membership has lapsed, we hope you will consider joining us as we look forward to 2015. Plans are already underway for our Women's Empowerment Conference at the Disneyland Resort, Women's Empowerment Day at the Capitol, Women's Empowerment Day Redding and numerous Appointments Trainings. We will also be offering our very successful Campaign Boot camp. We don't want you to miss out!

We could not do it without our network who share our mission to
ENGAGE*EMPOWER*ELECT. Thank you for your support and we look forward to an even more successful 2015!

Happy Holidays!

CA WOMEN LEAD IN THE NEWS
CA Women Lead continues to make headlines.

In Case You Missed It....

Orange County Register

"...the mission of Michelin's nonpartisan, 40-year-old group is to help women get elected regardless of party affiliation.

California Women Lead's activities include boot camps to educate potential candidates on key aspects of running a campaign - while steering clear of partisan policy issues. Recent attendees included Republican Ling-Ling Chang, elected (last) month to the tri-county Assembly District 55, which includes part of Orange County.

"Women bring a perspective that's different," Michelin said. "They approach problem-solving differently. They bring a different layer of understanding to issues like flex work time, human trafficking and breast cancer.

"And when girls see women in leadership positions, they're more likely to say, 'I can do that.'"

Ca Women Lead Releases Reports On Status Of California Women In Elected Office 2014 And Women Serving On City Councils

Status of California Women in Elected Office 2014

California Women Lead is proud to release our post-election report providing a snapshot of the total number of women serving in elected office across the state. The report, entitled California Women in Elected Office 2014, highlights the total number of women serving on County Boards of Supervisors, State Legislature, Board of Equalization, Executive Offices and Congress.

Click here to view the full report.

Also, in case you missed it, check out CA Women Lead CEO Rachel Michelin who was recently in the news, providing an analysis on the 2014 General Election results.

Women Represent 28 % of CA City Council Members

Despite statistical gains made nationally for women in elected office, the number of women in California serving in elected office, particularly on city councils, does not reflect California's female population, according to a report released jointly by California Women Lead and the Women's Caucus of the League of California Cities. The report shows a continued need for increased representation by elected women on city councils across the state.

The report, entitled "Snapshot on the Status of Women in City Government," reveals that the number of California women serving on City Councils is not as high as one would suspect, and did not mirror the gains women made in other parts of the country.

Click here to view more information and the full report.

CA Women Lead is also working on a partnership with the CA School Board Association to report on the status of the number of women school board members currently in the state. This report is expected in 2015.

WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT DAY- OAKLAND

CA Women Lead held a Women's Empowerment Day in Oakland in October. It was a wonderful event focused on empowering women to be leaders in their personal professional and political lives. CA Women Lead was able to reach many local women currently serving in and aspiring to serve in leadership positions in the Oakland and Greater Bay Area.

Thank you to our speakers - Fiona Ma, Courtney Ruby, Jumoke Hinton Hodge, Jody London, Roseann Torres, Anne Campbell Washington, Cassandra Pye, & Karen Moore. Your passion for women's empowerment inspired all who attended.

Thank you to our sponsors:

California Women Lead appreciates our members' support of our mission! Thank you for joining us as we ENGAGE *EMPOWER*
