A MESSAGE FROM
OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

What a busy summer for California Women Lead! In June, we hosted a great event in Los Angeles to discuss the declining trend of women serving in citywide elected office and followed with an Appointments Training in partnership with the Latina Lawyers Bar Association.

July didn't slow down. We hosted our Capitol Appointments Training with representatives from offices of the Governor, the Speaker of the Assembly, and the Senate President Pro Tem. We kicked off our 3rd If Not You, Then Who? Leadership Training Series in Sacramento. Thank you Paul Mitchell, VP of Political Data and Sam Harrod, Social Media Director, California Women Lead for volunteering their time to present at our first two classes.

August proved to be an eventful month for California Women Lead. Thank you John Bovee of Capitol Development Strategies and Diane Fishburn with Olson, Hagel and Fishburn for leading the discussions for our final If Not You, Then Who? classes on effective fundraising and complying with campaign finance law. In the East Bay, we hosted a successful a discussion with Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen and former Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Fiona Ma as part of our How Women Lead series.  Thank you to Miller Starr Regalia for hosting us in your office! We topped off August with our Summer Reception recognizing the recipients of our MOVER Awards - Making Our Vision of Equality a Reality. We celebrated five amazing women leaders who promote the mission of California Women Lead to engage, empower and elect.  We also applauded our graduates of our If Not You, Then Who? class and were thrilled with a record turnout of Legislators, sponsors and California Women Lead members and friends.  A HUGE thank you to the sponsors who made the successful this event possible!

The fall is proving to be just a busy. Already we have hosted an Appointments Training in San Jose in partnership with the Latina Business Coalition of the Silicon Valley, a roundtable discussion with Jan Perry and women business leaders in the Los Angeles area and
How Women Lead: Policy Matters with Assemblymembers Joan Buchanan & Susan Bonilla and Contra Costa County Supervisor Candace Andersen.

We have a number of events planned for the remainder of the year that include: Women's Empowerment Days in both Redding and Los Angeles; Appointments Trainings in Pismo Beach, Natomas and in Mountain View; and our annual breakfast as part of the California School Board Association Annual Education Conference with Appointments Secretary Mona Pasquil; and our annual Sacramento Holiday Mixer.

I will host a session as part of Assemblymember Beth Gaines' Northern California Women's Forum on October 5th and Corona City Councilwoman Karen Spiegel's women's conference in Ontario on October 30th

Be sure to check our calendar of events on our website often for the most up to date information and to like us on Facebook for the most up to date information.

As always, I am so appreciative of our members and partners who support our mission to empower women to be leaders in their community and state. If you are not a member, I hope you will consider joining today and join us in increasing women's voices in the political process.
