Dear California Women Lead Member,

Last week I signed up for my first half marathon.  Running a marathon has always been a goal of mine, but I kept putting it off - coming up with excuse after excuse. This year I decided to take baby steps.  In November, I took the first step and signed up and ran a 5K, now I'm training for my first half marathon in order to eventually reach my goal of running the full 26.2 miles one day.

So what do running a half marathon and California Women Lead have in common?  Sometimes we have to take baby steps - putting on your running shoes is like attending a California Women Lead networking event or appointments training. The next step might be a 5K or applying for an appointment at the local level.  Then you move on to a half marathon and apply for an appointment at the state level and finally make the decision to go all out and run the marathon or- RUN FOR ELECTED OFFICE.

Across the state women are having the same initial excuses I had for putting off running a marathon. They question whether or not they have what it takes.  Will they be successful?  Are they prepared? And the answer is YES!  You should run, you have what it takes and Yes - you will be successful because win or lose you took a risk!  And that is really what it is all about.

I look forward to seeing you at a future California Women Lead event and maybe out on the running circuit!
