The Lone Star Shootout
The Lone Star Shootout is right around the corner and plans are in the works for the most successful Shootout yet with the biggest field, biggest payouts and the best parties.
The theme this year is "break the records". Here are the big numbers we are shooting for:
-
$1,054,000 in total prize money. The record set last year making the Shootout the first $1,000,000 tournament in the Western Gulf with a release format.
-
$1,000,000 the record reward up for grabs for bringing in a new state record blue marlin
-
$52,700 Record contribution to the HBGFC Charitable programs
-
We had a record 64 tournament boats in 2014. We have our sights set on 70 this year.
We also put on a record breaking party on Wednesday and Saturday nights and we welcome all HBGFC members to come be a part of it or just make a party of it. Social tickets are available for the event and the weigh station is open to the public.
Mark your calendars and plan to attend the Shootout July 21 - 26, 2015!
Priority invitations will be emailed soon!

Captain's Corner
With the current weather being less than ideal for fishing, it's a good time to do a thorough engine room inspection (or have someone do it for you). Here is a list of items we check before preparing for our fishing season:
Check all hoses for cracks or wear
Check all hose clamps
Check belts on mains & generator and change if needed
Change all zincs
Check for any oil leaks that need to be addressed
Clean all sea strainers
Make sure all sea cocks are functioning properly
Run all systems to check
|
|
Check all bilge pumps and float switches
Clean AirSeps if needed
Clean engine room vent filters
Break down fuel filters and clean
Check all impellers and replace if needed
Have A/C system checked and cleaned if needed
Have fire system inspected
Soap & dry entire engine room
Touch up paint where needed
|
By taking care of these items now while the weather is bad you can be confident that you're ready when the weather starts getting nice again.

News from The Billfish Foundation
Each year, TBF is able to depend on anglers across the world to report their billfish tag and release information. Since it began in 1990, TBF's Tag & Release Program anglers, captains and mates worldwide have allowed it to become the largest private billfish tagging database in the world with over 200,000 tag and release records that is valuable data needed to further billfish science and ensure that fishing opportunities are available for future generations. Without the dedication of these individuals around the world, what is known about billfish science and the advances in conservation, would not be possible today. To recognize their efforts', each year TBF's International Tag & Release Competition rewards captains, anglers, and mates and brings out the best in the sportfishing arena.
