3rd Annual Fun Fishing Day
The Club hosted the 3rd Annual Fun Fishing Day on October 11, 2014 at the Pelican Rest Marina in Galveston for the children of the Ronald McDonald House AND the Shriners Children's Hospital.

17 kiddos ages 5 - 18 enjoyed spending the morning with Club volunteers who fished with them, teaching them how to cast, reel and release their fill of piggy perch. They were then treated to lunch, goody bags filled with personal necessities and gift cards, trophies, and other keepsakes to remind them of their fun day with the Club.

We would like to thank all of the sponsors, donors and volunteers who enabled the Club to host such an incredibly special event this year. Each of the Fun Fishing Day contributors played an important part in the very special day.  We could not have hosted such a rewarding event without them.

News from The Billfish Foundation
The Billfish Foundation

TBF's Tag & Release program has generated over 200,000 billfish tag and release reports and is the largest private billfish tagging database in the world. This tremendous amount of valuable data is only possible because of the support of anglers, captains, and leaders in the sportfishing industry. TBF's 2014 Conservation Record is now available to show how these efforts are being utilized. Dedicated to Dr. Russell Nelson, the Conservation Record provides a thorough analysis and summary of tag & release records from the entire 2013 year. The detailed report offers an inside understanding of tag, release and recapture data by species and region including some amazing recaptures in the Gulf of Mexico. Read more about the conservation report and check out TBF's new Tag & Release Database. If you are in the area come see the TBF at the Fort Lauderdale Int'l Boat Show at the Bahia Mar booth from 10/3014 - 11/3/14.

Captain's Corner

We had a great dove hunt with Russell Potter (R & S Yacht Service) and his dad at the end of the first split of the season. Thank you Russell for purchasing the trip at the Club's Annual Awards Banquet and thanks to Club Corporate Sponsor Ken Yarbrough (MCSI) for the donation of the trip to La Paloma Ranch! After the successful dove hunt, I am sure we will have plenty of dove for the Annual Captains and Mates Party at the Yacht Basin in December! Right now we are looking at Wednesday the 10th.  Russell has given us permission to use his bay in the old Yacht Service this year to have some protection from the weather. I look forward to seeing you there!
