Lone Star Shootout

It's time to get ready for the 2014 Lone Star Shootout! The Shootout will be held July 22 - 27 at the Caracol Yacht Club in Port O'Connor, Texas. Invitations will be mailed next week.

Please join us as we celebrate our 10th year of Texas tournament tradition! One of our traditions is setting new records each year and last year we did it again! We paid out over $681,000 in prize money setting yet another record.  We are already setting records this year for requests for Shootout invitations and early bird entries. You will want to get in early to reserve a prime slip.

We are going to raise the bar (and the tent) to celebrate our 10th anniversary and we want you there!

News from The Billfish Foundation
The Billfish Foundation

The Billfish Foundation will have a busy month of April in Washington D.C. with three separate meetings set to take place on both the federal and international levels. TBF will work with fisheries managers at the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Recreational Saltwater Fishing Summit to identify current challenges and collaborate on future solutions. This meeting serves an important role in making sure the voice of the recreational community is prominent. Andrew Cox will lead TBF's voice at the NMFS Highly Migratory Species Advisory Panel meeting where updates on Amendment 7 for bluefin tuna management will be discussed.  Ellen Peel and Andrew will attend the ICCAT Advisory Committee Working Group Meetings where billfish research and management priorities will be discussed. Captain's Corner
Just when we are starting to feel spring approaching and everyone is gearing up for our 2014 fishing season we have a collision in the ship channel that shuts it all down. We just started running trips the Friday before and all of the charter boats out of the basin were booked for spring break. It has had a big impact on the fishing community and the businesses that we support. We want to thank the clean up crews and wish them the best of luck to solve this problem but I believe we will be dealing with this for years to come.
