News from The Billfish Foundation
The Billfish FoundationIn addition to the satellite tagging study in the Gulf of Mexico, The Billfish Foundation is also laying the groundwork and planning for a socio-economic study of tournament and non-tournament fishing by billfish anglers in the Gulf. Both studies will provide great benefits to billfish anglers in the Gulf by 1) learning more about billfish migration within the Gulf of Mexico and 2) displaying the socio-economic benefits generated by billfish anglers in the region such as jobs, expenditures, and taxes into local economies. Both are highly essential for billfish conservation purposes because they will further demonstrate the importance of healthy fish stocks and billfish angling on local, federal, and international levels. The Billfish Foundation would like to solicit support for these two programs from members of the HBGFC. Your support and dedication to these projects ensure future fishing opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico for generations to come.

Captain's Corner

Have you ever gotten offshore and found that you have a broken hose clamp or a bad float switch? How many times have you said "I have one, but I left it in the locker"? Now is a good time to take everything out and see what you have or don't have. Those flashlight batteries you had for spares are five years old. Don't get caught offshore without the basic spare parts. Spare parts for everything is the best way to be prepared. So don't be the guy that calls your buddy at 5:00 am to come and get you because of a blown hose. Keep it on board!
