The Club hosted the 2nd Annual Fun Fishing Day on October 12, 2013 at the Pelican Rest Marina in Galveston.
We would like to thank the generous sponsors, donors and volunteers of the Fun Fishing Day for helping to make the special event such a success. Buddy and Marita Schultz, owners of the Pelican Rest Marina donated their beautiful facility and staff to the Fun Fishing Day, Mike Dean, owner of Yaga's Cafe generously sponsored the event, Smitty's Bait Camp donated bait and ice to the novice anglers. The new Number 13 Steakhouse in Galveston donated not only the tables and chairs for lunch but also the use of their outdoor palapa. We would also like to thank Michael and Lisa Thorn-Leeson and Sean and Zena Welsh and the Cool Cookers for donating a delicious BBQ lunch for the participants and volunteers and Orca Assets for donating overflowing gift bags full of personal necessity's to each of the families at the Ronald McDonald House.
We are proud to host the Fun Fishing Day and look forward to another successful event in 2014!

News from The Billfish Foundation
The Billfish Foundation would like to remind members of the Houston Big Game Club that the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has extended the comment period for the proposed rulemaking for Draft Amendment 7 (Bluefin Tuna Management Measures) until December 10, 2013. This time extension will allow the NMFS to evaluate any new recommendations from ICCAT at the annual meeting later in November as well as increase the comments from the general public. Within the draft rule, NMFS is exploring alternatives that will impact gulf anglers including potential seasonal longline closures and allocating anglers in the Gulf of Mexico a separate quota for giant bluefin tuna (greater than 73" curved fork length), as recommended by TBF. The Billfish Foundation is also very concerned with the potential opening of the DeSoto Canyons to conditional longline vessels in the Gulf of Mexico, an area closed in 2000 to decrease mortality of juvenile swordfish. To learn more about Amendment 7 and sign-up for updates on this important issue, click here.
