News from The Billfish Foundation

The Billfish Foundation is proud to announce the winners of the 2012 Tag and Release Competition and recognize captains, TBF anglers, and other members of the sportfishing community at the annual award ceremony on February 15, 2013 in Miami, Florida. In the 2012 competition, captains and anglers from around the world submitted more than 7,500 tag and release reports that play an important part of TBF's mission to further billfish science and advocacy.

Knowing that many members of the HBGFC travel to Guatemala and fish aboard the Allure (owned by HBGFC member Hill Dishman), it should be noted that Capt. Chris Van Leeuwen (aka 'Kiwi') won the Top Release Captain for Pacific Blue Marlin. To see the full list of winners for the TBF Tag and Release Competition, visit http://ow.ly/h6cUL.

Boat Safety
Fishing and traveling season is just around the corner. When traveling to Mexico and even tournament to tournament, have a safety plan.  For overnight travel have a buddy system. There should be four people on board capable of running and stopping the boat in case of an emergency.  Don't leave anyone on the bridge for too long by themselves and know where everyone is at all times.  Make sure to carry a Co2 flotation device, light stick and whistle that can be passed to the next person on watch.  Safety first, arrive alive and save the beer for the dock.
