Scholarship Recipient, Mackenzie Lloyd
When I decided to apply for nursing school, I thought my biggest challenge would be competing for acceptance into a prestigious nursing program. Instead, financing my education proved to be the greater hurdle. Thanks to the Houston Big Game Fishing Club and the generosity of its members, I have been relieved of my financial burden and am now free to focus entirely on my schooling. Rest assured, I will carry your generosity with me and pay it forward by providing compassionate, sound nursing care to the members of our community.

News from The Billfish Foundation
Great news for billfish conservation! The Billfish Conservation Act of 2012 was signed into law on October 5, 2012 by President Obama and will now prohibit the sale of Pacific billfish in the United States. In recent years, the U.S. has been the largest importer of Pacific Billfish and with this legislation, the incentive to export billfish into the U.S. will be eliminated. While particulars regarding the implementation and enforcement of the Billfish Conservation Act are still to be determined, there is no doubt that this is a great step for billfish conservation and will set a strong example in international fisheries management. The Billfish Foundation was proud to be a part of this great step for conservation as a member of the Coastal Commission for Conservation. |
