News from The Billfish Foundation
With a hot white marlin bite this summer in the Gulf of Mexico, The Billfish Foundation is closely monitoring the current petition for an endangered species listing for White Marlin in the United States. Additionally, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT) is completing a stock assessment in November for white marlin. Anecdotal evidence through the Gulf, Caribbean, and Mid-Atlantic would make some think the stock is improving. Hopefully, the scientists will determine the same thing. A listing under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) could have negative implications for the sportfishing industry.
