"And they said, 'Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.'"
Genesis 11:4 (NKJ)
 
After the flood God again gave man instructions to be fruitful and fill the earth. But, men became worried about being scattered throughout the world, even though that is what God wanted. So, they banded together and began to construct a great city with a grand tower that would reach the heavens. The people used their combined strengths and intelligence to build a city they could be proud of; even though that was not what God wanted! It is at this point of disobedience that God gives men different languages, only then did they begin to move out across the earth.
 
If we think about the story of the Tower of Babel, it looks very similar to the church today! Jesus told the church to GO throughout all the world! But instead the church has hunkered down and began to build grand facilities for themselves. God said GO, and the Church (as a whole) said NO! What will it take for Church of Jesus Christ to be obedient to their Lord? And, indeed the Church of Jesus Christ is nothing other than the people who call themselves by His name, regardless of denominational affiliation. It has always been God's desire for His glory to be spread across the earth! The church must stop fearing they will be scattered, trust God, and GO! Great things still await the Church, and those things do not include using her resources for self-fulfillment or self-indulgence. We were commanded to GO, and Go we must!!
