Stay Silent

"Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive." Proverbs 17:28 (NKJ)

Surely, one of the characteristic that springs from wisdom is the ability to remain silent in times of crises and confusion when the enemy attacks. Knowing the power our words carry, and the pure emotional outburst we are capable of, staying silent when we discern the work of the enemy in our lives is one of the best things we can do. Holding our tongue gives us time to assess the situation, examining it in the light of God's eternal Word, so that we may respond accordingly with our words and actions; led by our spirit and not our flesh.

John Selden said, "Wise people say nothing in dangerous times." Confusion often abounds when the enemy strikes, and in that confusion we often interpret things incorrectly, for our emotions are at a heightened level of stimulation. Therefore, silence is needed to discern the situation and the work of the enemy, for it is in the silence that we will find the voice of God speaking to our hearts, giving us understanding and wisdom on how we should respond, and the words we should speak! It is in our silence that God has an opportunity to speak, and we have an opportunity to listen.

"Oh, that you would be silent, And it would be your wisdom!"
Job 13:5 (NKJ)
