Emotional Control
     
"Be angry and do not sin. Don't let the sun go down on your anger, and don't give the Devil an opportunity." Ephesians 4:26-27 (HCSB)
 
The devil has the ability to play on our emotions stirring up anger, jealousy, lust, grief, bitterness, regret, and anxiety, to name just a few. Our emotions have been given to us by God as part of our being, and are intended to be subject to our New Nature, which is subject to the Holy Spirit. The devil attempts to gain power of our emotions to enlist them in helping him to gain control over us. The enemy knows if he can keep the child of God tied up with grief, lust, anger, or some other form of emotional bondage, he can make them of no effect in the war against good and evil. Our emotions must remain bridled, under the control of our New Nature, which is led by the Spirit of God.
 
Henry Drummond said, "No form of vice, not worldliness, not greed of gold, not drunkenness itself, does more to un-Christianize society than evil temper." The use of anger to gain control of God's children is such an effective strategy for the enemy, because anger can come on quickly with little to no warning, and it moves the child of God to behave completely opposite of their identity in Christ. Now, there is a godly anger that can move God's children as well, but be sure, the enemy wants no part of this, for this anger is always directed towards him and his works of destruction. Our emotions are to be a powerful ally in our struggle against the satan and his demonic forces! Our emotions move us to live and act, in passion for the Kingdom of God's sake! They move us to demonstrate God's love to the world around us. And, godly anger, which is directed at the enemy, and under the control of our New Nature, moves us to act courageously, free of fear and anxiety, regardless of the challenges that may lie ahead of us!
