"But the people of Israel, who tried so hard to get right with God by keeping the law, never succeeded." Romans 9:31 (NLT)
 
Today there are still many people, like the children of Israel, who are trying to get right with God by the things they do. They believe if they do all the right things they can earn a position of favor with God. They try to buy God's goodness by the deeds they perform. Yet, there is no way to buy God's goodness through our behavior and performance. No matter how "good" we may be, we will never be good enough. Fortunately for us God made a way for us to be right with Him apart from our performance and deeds. Through the finished work of Jesus Christ we are able to be made right with God by faith. We can freely receive right standing with God by trusting in Jesus! Now that's truly AMAZING GRACE! God, apart from anything we have done or could do, has made us right with Him through Jesus Christ! And, because we are right with God we are free to receive all His goodness through Jesus!
 
We must never forget that God blesses us because of the work of Jesus, not the work we have done. We are surely called to do good works, and in fact, it's hard not to do them with the Spirit of God living inside of you! Good works should come natural to the child of God, but they have nothing to do with God blessing them, and everything to do with who they now are! A new creation in Christ Jesus! Freely receive the goodness of God by faith, knowing you stand before Him made righteous by the work of Jesus Christ!
 
"When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life."
