Fruit Of Change
     
"Produce fruit in keeping with repentance." Matthew 3:8 (NIV)
 
John the Baptist challenged the religious leaders of his day to prove that their lives were changed by producing fruit; fruit that true repentance always brings. For us to gain the right understanding of this we must first realize that repentance means to change the way we think, not to merely ask for forgiveness of our sins. If we only ask for forgiveness and never change the way we think about sin, we will continue to live lives devastated by the destructive works that sin always brings. Being aware only of our sin nature does not bring a change in behavior. But, being aware of our new position with God, through Jesus Christ, has the ability to change everything about how we live our lives! When we turn to Christ and call on Him for salvation we become the righteousness of God, and if we can begin to see ourselves as God's righteousness through Jesus Christ, and not merely old sinners, our lives will produce fruit that reflects our new position with God. Change the way you think about your life in Christ and your new position with God through Christ, and your life will be lived radically different, producing great fruit for the Kingdom of God! If you are in Christ you are no longer an "old sinner", but the very righteousness of God through Jesus Christ your Lord!
