Time Of Refreshing

"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." Acts 3:19 (NIV)

As Peter speaks to his fellow Israelites he admonishes them to repent. What he is literally telling them is to change the way they think. They needed to change the way they thought about Jesus, sin, and being right with God. And, Peter assures them that when they do a time of refreshing will come!

We all need times of refreshing! A time to be lifted up and energized! Repentance is often looked at as a bad word, a word that only the unsaved should be associated with. But, in truth repentance is a good word for all! It is a word for sinners and saints alike. When we repent we change the way we think about something, which in turn should also change the way we act. When we go through time of trials, and face depression and anxiety, we need refreshing! We need the Lord to reach down and lift us up! It is in times such as these that it would perhaps be a good change the way we view out trials. G.V. Wigram, an English Bible scholar and theologian from the 19th century, said, "Sorrows and trials are not only like the sand and grit that polish a stone, but I shall be made to taste, through the trouble, what Christ is to me." We can truly say not everything is good, but God in His wisdom and mercy is truly able to make everything turn into good. If you are facing trials and difficulties today that are dragging you down, perhaps changing the way you see them could bring an opportunity for the Lord to refresh you! Remember, sorrow may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning! Change the way you think, and your morning of refreshing from the Lord will come also!

"Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don't try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way." James 1:2-4 (MSG)
