The Gatekeeper
"For as he thinks in his heart, so is he..." Proverbs 23:7 (NKJ)
Depending on which translation of the Bible you are reading, this verse from Proverbs could be found translated very differently. This peculiar section of verse 7 from Proverbs 23 contains only two words, "thinks" and "heart" the rest are filler words used by all translation, and translators, to help the reader make sense of what they are reading. The word "thinks" carries the meaning of gatekeeper while the word "heart" would be your mind, or your soul as it would be (which is different than your spirit). From this verse we can see that our thoughts serve as a "gatekeeper" that opens the gate of our mind for either blessings or troubles to come into our lives. If our thoughts are controlled by our "New Nature" which is from God, they will be filled with the promises and blessings contained within God's Word, opening the gate of our mind for ALL of God's goodness to flow into our lives! On the other hand, if our thoughts are dominated by our "Old Nature" they will in-turn be filled with the worries and concerns of this world, opening the gate of our mind for the enemy to pour out his destructive schemes into our lives! Amy Carmichael once said, "All the great temptations appear first in the region of the mind and can be fought and conquered there. We have been given the power to close the door of the mind. We can lose this power through disuse or increase it by use, by the daily discipline of the inner man in things which seem small and by reliance upon the word of the Spirit of truth." Allow your "New Nature" to dominate your thoughts with the truths declared in God's Word, and in so doing the gate of you mind will be opened for all the blessings of God to freely flow through into your life here on planet earth!
