Strong Roots
 
"Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness." Colossians 2:7 (NLT)
 
It is the roots of a tree that hold it firm to the ground when the storm blows. A deep rooted oak will not easily be uprooted; though the winds of the storm may rage, the deep roots of the tree will ensure it is unmoved by the storm. Amy Carmichael, a Protestant Christian missionary who served in India for fifty-five years without furlough, said, "Let us not be surprised when we have to face difficulties. When the wind blows hard on a tree, the roots stretch and grow the stronger, let it be so with us. Let us not be weaklings, yielding to every wind that blows, but strong in spirit to resist." There can be no doubt that we will all face the storms of life. We will be confronted with challenges that seem unbearable. But, if we will allow our roots to grow deep into the truth of Christ, we will not be moved by these storms and challenges. Permit your roots to grow deep into Jesus, that He may give you the nourishment you need to stand strong and firm, that you may be anchored in the truth of His Word; then you will be unmovable, regardless of what the enemy may throw your way.
 
"I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong." Ephesians 3:16-17 (NLT)
