Rejoice
 
"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!" Philippians 4:4 (NKJ)
 
Rejoicing is not the same thing as being happy. Happiness is an emotional experience; rejoicing on the other hand is an action. When I rejoice in the Lord I make a choice to celebrate the Lord's goodness and mercy by offering to Him thanksgiving and praise. Happiness comes and goes with the tides of our emotions. Rejoicing is something we do by choice, a choice which does not have to be dictated by our emotions. We can choose to rejoice in the Lord despite our circumstances, where happiness and sadness are both dependent on my circumstances. Our ability to rejoice is determined by our focus, for if our focus is on our problems and the cares of this world, our rejoicing will be restricted by such. But, if our focus is on our Lord and our Heavenly citizenship, our decision to rejoice will be made off of these truths. Jesus told His disciples, "Don't rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven." Make a choice to rejoice today, despite your circumstances, by focusing your attention on the Lord and all He has done, is doing, and will do in the future for you!
