The Golden Rule
 
"Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God's Law and Prophets and this is what you get." Matthew 7:12 (MSG)
 
The Golden Rule, treating others the way we would like to be treated. William Wilberforce, whose voice led the way for the abolition of slavery in Britain, said, "Let everyone regulate his conduct by the golden rule of doing to others as in similar circumstances we would have them do to us, and the path of duty will be clear before him." Wilberforce wanted people who lived a free life to put themselves in the shoes of those who did not. What would they want others to do for them if they were sold into slavery against their will? The truthful answer was simple; they would want someone to free them, and for that reason they should do it for others.
 
What about you? How do you treat others? How would you like to be treated? Do you treat others with respect and dignity? Are you kind and loving to those you feel don't deserve it? Do you show mercy to those who have lost their way? If you want to receive mercy, Jesus said you should show it to others! Be kind to your fellow man! Help those in need! Speak out against injustice! Lend a hand to the downtrodden! Give words of hope to the hopeless! Love your enemy! Be a blessing to all those around you! Treat others the way you want to be treated, and you will live a blessed life full of God's peace!
