Brotherly Love
 
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." John 13:34 (NKJ)
 
Jesus set the example for how we were to love when He laid His life down for us. Now, Jesus tells us we are to love one another the same way He loved us. We are to lay our lives down for our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are to love them with an unselfish love, a love that doesn't look to gain personal gratitude, but only to give. Brotherly love takes the hand of another and walks with them through the fires of life's circumstances. It picks up the burdens of others and freely caries them with joy. In fact, Paul describes this love we are to have for one another this way, when he writes, "Love is never tired of waiting; love is kind; love has no envy; love has no high opinion of itself, love has no pride; Love's ways are ever fair, it takes no thought for itself; it is not quickly made angry, it takes no account of evil; It takes no pleasure in wrongdoing, but has joy in what is true; Love has the power of undergoing all things, having faith in all things, hoping all things." Jesus was clear when He said, this kind of love would testify to us being His disciples. This is the kind of love we receive from our Father in Heaven through Jesus Christ, and this is the kind of love we are to show to our brothers and sisters through Jesus Christ as well. Show love to your brothers and sisters in Christ, knowing we are one family, and one day when our Lord returns we shall all be united as one family in our Home Country; Heaven!
