Judging The Church

"What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. 'Expel the wicked person from among you.'" 1 Corinthians 5:12-13 (NIV)

Judging in the Church is something that is often shied away from, but Paul reminds the believers in Corinth they must not be afraid to judge. When we judge our brothers and sisters in Christ we do so that we may help them in their struggles. But, there is another reason to judge inside the church walls...in the Book of Romans Paul reminds the Church that just because someone can trace their physical lineage back to Jacob or Abraham, doesn't make them a descendant of theirs when he says, "For they are not all Israel who are of Israel." Well, the same could be said of the Church today, "Not all who are in the church are of the Church." Just because someone comes to church doesn't make them a Christian! The enemy loves to infect believers with corruption by using false-Christians to infiltrate the church that he may destroy God's Army of believers who have been called to destroy his works upon the earth!

When John the Baptist was thrown into jail, he sends his disciples to Jesus to inquire if He is truly the Messiah. Jesus reply's by telling John's disciples to go back and tell him what they have seen and heard, "The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them." Jesus is telling them to judge for themselves whether or not He is the promised Messiah based on what they have experienced. We too would be wise to judge those inside the church by what they do, and not just what they say. If we refuse to make judgments we can be sure the devil will take advantage of that fact and do his best to corrupt our spirit, making us ineffective in the war against him and his demonic forces, by using false-Christians. We cannot afford to give the devil an advantage over us! We are at war with the enemy, and we must not be afraid to judge his works inside the church walls!

"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?" Matthew 7:15-16 (NIV)
