No matter what we do we cannot make ourselves right with God. There is absolutely nothing we can do on our own to give us good standing with the Lord. We are freely justified, apart from anything we try to do on our own, by Jesus Christ! Charles Spurgeon, an English pastor and writer form the 19^th century, said, "Saving faith is an immediate relation to Christ, accepting, receiving, resting upon Him alone, for justification, sanctification, and eternal life by virtue of God's grace." It is the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross that makes us right with God; it gives us a relationship with our Father in Heaven that is not dependent on our ability to do "good". Most of God's children understand this fact as it is related to their personal salvation. But, they discount the justification by Jesus Christ when it comes to God blessing them. Too many of God's children try to earn the blessings of God by the works that they do; they believe if they are "good enough" God will answer their prayers and bless them. It is in this falsehood that God's children miss out on their Father's goodness. God blesses us based off of what Jesus has done! He gives ear to our prayers and stands ready to answer them based on our relationship with Christ, our dependency on the works of Jesus! There is absolutely no way we could earn God's blessings, so we would be wise to stop trying to! Whether we have a "good" day or a "bad" day we stand right with God because of Jesus! Depend on the finished work of Jesus, don't try to add to it, or take away from it, and you will see your life filled with the goodness of God! You will live a life of blessing and power! Your prayer life will yield great fruit! And, it will not be because you deserve it, but because through Jesus you are right with God! Be blessed!!
