Small Beginnings

"Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, 'There is a cloud, as small as a man's hand, rising out of the sea!' So he said, Go up, say to Ahab, 'Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.'" 1 Kings 18:44 (NKJ)

Elijah prayed for the rain to come, and then sent his servant to look for the rain. Seven times Elijah would send his servant out before he would return with the report Elijah was looking for. Elijah's servant tells him he sees a small cloud about the size of a man's hand. It's a small rain cloud, but Elijah understands that small beginnings can yield big results! What starts out as a small hand will bring the end to Israel's drought.

Small beginnings are not to be despised, for they can be the beginning of a great work of God! Elijah understood that just because God starts something off small doesn't mean it will stay that way. Elijah received a small rain cloud, but in an act of faith he prepared for a large one, and that's exactly how it ended up! If God has given you something smaller than you had hoped for, don't despise what God has done, what seems small could merely be the seed of something much larger to come. Nourish that seed with faith, be grateful to the Lord for what He has already done, and watch that small beginning turn into something bigger than you had ever imagined!

"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin..." Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
