Persistence

"And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the Lord, 'O Lord my God, please let this child's life return to him.'" 1 Kings 17:21 (NLT)

Elijah was a great and powerful prophet of God, you would think the first time he cried out to God he would receive an answer, but that was not the case. Three times Elijah cries out to God before his prayer is answered. Elijah was persistent and refused to quit calling on the Lord until his prayer was answered. Perhaps this was Elijah's secret to being a powerful servant of the Lord; he knew never to give up on God!

E.M. Bounds once said, "Faith does not grow disheartened because prayer is not immediately honored: it takes God at His Word, and lets Him take what time He chooses in fulfilling His purpose, and in carrying on His work." There are times we call out to the Lord and an answer comes immediately; those can be very exciting times! But, when the Lord doesn't answer immediately our faith can be challenged, but true faith never gives up on God! True faith is persistent and will continue to call out until it gets an answer! If you're calling on the Lord and an answer hasn't come, don't lose heart. Be persistent in seeking the Lord for your answer, and do it out of a heart of faith, not one of anger and religious pretense! God is faithful!!

"One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up" Luke 18:1 (NLT)
